One of my favorite things about Christmas growing up was that almost every day leading up to the holiday my family did something special together. These somethings weren't anything necessarily extravagant and actually sometimes rather ordinary but the fact that we were doing these something specials (on a school night!) was always a real treat.
And since, thanks to being gainfully employed, I still call Su-Thur "school nights" I give to you some of my favorite ordinary special somethings for you to enjoy with your loved ones leading up to Christmas:
Make holiday cards for troops/senior citizens
You can reach out to your local Red Cross or assisted living home to see how best to deliver these.
Dominoes
This is a great game - even for little kids. One of my fondest memories of my great-grandmother was her teaching me how to play dominoes and I love to play with Justin (even though he cheats).
Movie/Popcorn Night
Pop in your favorite holiday movie, or record one on TV and you're set for holiday merriment.
Make Cookies
Cliche. But there's a reason why... it's awesome. Period.
Car ride!!! Christmas Lights!
One year Justin and I found one of those houses that coordinates lights to music - pretty spectacular.
Read a Christmas Story or Memorable Book
Even more awesome if you're doing it in front of a fire. My mom always used to read us poems from a book she was read to as a kid.
Fill Up the Pantry
$20 worth of food for your local food pantry makes a huge difference for someone.
Make Cocoa or Cider
I'm more of a cider gal myself - here's a good recipe for Starbuck's cider.
Call a Friend or Family Member
Pretty simple, pretty nice.
Make an Ornament
With Pinterest the abundance of options can be overwhelming but who doesn't love a good Christmas craft (or a good Christmas Pinterest fail).
I hope this inspires you all to enjoy a little special ordinary with your loved ones and share a little Christmas cheer!
